Almanac is a series of seasonal observations and fragments of time, inspired by, held within and gathered from Naomi Mcintosh’s Cairngorms garden.

The exhibition brings together beech wood sculptures from her Charting Water series, Garden Almanac drawings made with botanical inks and charcoal and steam-bent ash Inflorescence Sculptures. Together, the works form a record of looking, attentive to growth, decay, repetition and the subtle changes of the seasons.

Part observation, part collection, Almanac considers the garden as a place of memory and time, where small changes accumulate and daily observations become a way of marking the passing year.

Drawing is the foundation for every project and inks are made using trees, plants and the earth to create a softness and calm in the mark making.

These drawings are created using seasonal inks made by the artist drawn using Japanese dip pens, onto handmade cotton.

The walnut wood frames are made locally, using UV art glass to protect the delicate inks and give a beautiful clarity. As with other ink drawings and watercolours, hang away from direct sunlight.

Canopy has made from elder gathered in the Summer of 2026 and charcoal for Cairngorm forest fires, which creates an incredible soft greens with and grey.
